Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen… One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

DisclaimerI first read this book circa 2011 – at the time I was 14 or so – meaning that the views I originally had may conflict with the ones I have now. If you see any views that seem mis-representative of myself on any other platforms, please keep this in mind.  Now that thats out of the way, lets talk about Shadow Falls. Reading this series a second time around, it was innately not mind-blowing. But, despite its flaws it was – and still is – a good read. | Spoilers | Kylie can see ghosts, yes ghost ghosts. Beginning on the precipice of her parents divorce, Kylie starts seeing a man. A man, dressed in the traditional soldier apparel. He is – or I suppose was – a solider, and died. Hence the whole ghost thing. After an unfortunate series of events, including (but not limited to), a divorce, a party, a broken heart, a ghost, and drugs (not necessarily in that order), Kylie’s mother decides to send her to a Summer Camp, one for delinquents. Of course, we later learn (don’t worry, only a few pages later), that this is thanks to her therapist who is Supernatural. Okay, you still with me? Shadow Falls, ends up being a Summer Camp for supernatural, which they suspect Kylie is – thats a long one, and if you read on in the series you’ll understand why. After befriending Miranda (a witch), and Della (a Vampire),  Kylie slowly – very slowly – begins to sense that she does belong. Enter Lucas and Derek. Werewolf and Faerie respectively, and deeply attached to Kylie. No, it’s not going to be just a love-triangle. Because this one is more than soppy teenage angst. In this one, we have complexity. Emotions are read, ‘persuasions’ are present, and Kylie is confused. At this stage in the series, we as a audience can’t pick a single person (Okay, I prefer Derek. But then I’ve read on and theres this whole thing, and Lucas is just very player-y and I don’t like it). As the story progresses, we traipse through love and lust. We visit concepts of family, hurt, despair. Belonging, and belief. Trust, and friendship. We also have some major bombshells that you can see coming, if you’re that sort of reader. Writing wise, I wasn’t astounded. But I was not disappointed either. I was, content? It reads naturally and fluidly, without any grand statements and wordy passages. Also, C.C Hunter seemed to find it hard to traipse the line of maturity especially when it came down to the leaders of the camp.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. For more Bookish Content, visit;
